• Our team is looking to connect with folks who use email services provided by Plesk, or a premium service. If you'd like to be part of the discovery process and share your experiences, we invite you to complete this short screening survey. If your responses match the persona we are looking for, you'll receive a link to schedule a call at your convenience. We look forward to hearing from you!
  • The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

    Question Reverse DNS/PTR Record

Thank you. I actually had it set like this. The underlying problem remains, which is sending to GMX email addresses fails because of the reverse DNS lookup mismatch between my domain and the underlying stratoserver domain. I don't understand how this feature/setting can help with reverse DNS lookup.

    Question Reverse DNS/PTR Record

Hello again, in particular @Bitpalast your help would be much appreciated. Emails to GMX fail, because of a mismatch between my domain and the hosting strato domain (PTR records) You write the PTR does not have to be fixed, rather we should set "Outgoing mail mode: Send from domain IP...

    Question Some security questions

Thanks! Makes me feel better. I worried these might have been some known malware behavior. fail2ban still has problems; it is running now, in the log I have the following errors: ---- 2024-04-11 06:26:10,253 fail2ban.utils [2504]: ERROR 7f6e05c23270 -- exec: iptables -w -I...

    Question Some security questions

Hi! I run several pretty generic Plesk installations on Strato VMs. Everything is uptodate, but I found some weird security settings in my machines. I run some HTML websites, plenty of Wordpress with minimal plugins, and one Moodle instance. I'm not a great sysadmin, if anyone has...

Sigh, I'm only talking to myself apparently. This s*cks.

Issue Weird side-effects when disabling root login

This is for a virtual server. I saw some posts suggesting the hoster might get in the way?

Issue Weird side-effects when disabling root login

    1. I have a well working system, if I allow root access for ssh PermitRootLogin yes without any restrictions. As soon as I add Match Address 127.0.0.1 I cannot login any longer using ssh *at* *all*. Not from the outside (as expected) but also not using the Plesk UI using Tools & settings...

    Resolved Firewall disabled

Thanks, but slow iptables doesn't seem to be the reason. How can I get help? Our hoster Strato (and the Plesk reseller) has given up too. Thank you.

    Resolved Firewall disabled

Thanks for the update. I wiped the server in waiting again and reinstalled Ubuntu 22.04 LTS and Plesk from my hoster. I didn't do anything but the out of the box system and then enabled the firewall. I still get the same problem. The firewall extension's version is 2.0.2-352 The server is a...

    Resolved Firewall disabled

Here the message from the UI, suggesting there never was a good configuration (this is a fresh install!) I did not receive connectivity confirmation after applying new firewall configuration, then same happened after I reverted to previous configuration. This means that both new and previous...

    Resolved Firewall disabled

I have the same problem. Fresh install Obsidian / Ubuntu 22.04 LTS. Confirming the rules times out for no apparent reason. I have removed and reinstalled Firewall through the UI and using ssh, same effect: Can't enable the firewall.

Resolved Need help with email relay not being used

Thank you. This was indeed the problem. I had misunderstood the flag "Activate mail service on this domain" to enable/disable all mail sending, not just the emails that might get delivered locally. Given my abilities, I'm always worried about the security of our servers. I keep things minimal...

Resolved Need help with email relay not being used

Hi! we use multiple Linux servers with the same hoster and Plesk Obsidian. On one of the servers, email sending does not work. I suspect this line in the logfiles points at the problem Dec 9 23:12:38 xxx postfix-local[102419]: xxx from=<wordpress@domain.com>, to=<test@domain.org>...

    Question Confused on admin role

Thanks. I got my admin account back. But why is the xyz account inferior to the hard-coded (?) admin account? It seems reasonable to me to not use a commonly name for an account that every cracker would try to get into.

    Question Confused on admin role

Hi, I rent a couple of servers from my provider and manage them all through Plesk. All have been recently installed and are uptodate on Linux/Obsidian. On one server, I decided to not use admin as the main administrator account but rather xyz. The xyz account even though set to full...
