• Our team is looking to connect with folks who use email services provided by Plesk, or a premium service. If you'd like to be part of the discovery process and share your experiences, we invite you to complete this short screening survey. If your responses match the persona we are looking for, you'll receive a link to schedule a call at your convenience. We look forward to hearing from you!
  • The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

    Input AlmaLinux ... it works!

Yes, it is a good alternative with very much potential. You can read on their website that AlmaLinux is a free OS and will always be free. They will offer support until at least 2029. They have financial backup of CloudLinux which is their commercial version of the OS. They have proven to be...

    Question Fail2ban sqlite database huge

FYI: as far as I know since Fail2Ban version v0.11 old entries are being purged based on the dbpurgeage parameter. However the database is not being 'vacuumed'. This means that old entries are being 'flagged' as deleted, but are not actually removed from the database. So the database will still...

Question POLL: CentOS 8 replacement before end 2021?

A free replacement for CentOS 8 with support until at least 2029 is already available and working. We don't have to wait any longer. It's already here. It requires a clean install of Plesk. First you install AlmaLinux and then Plesk afterwards. Check my post...

Question CentOS is shifting focus from CentOS 8 to CentOS Stream

@SpacedOut No need to wait anymore. There already is a fine replacement for CentOS 8: AlmaLinux Check the link: https://talk.plesk.com/threads/almalinux-it-works.360706/

    Input AlmaLinux ... it works!

End of last year I was very disappointed to hear that CentOS 8 would be discontinued end of 2021 instead of the promised 2029. Like some others out here I had put a lot of effort in configuring a nice server setup based on CentOS 8. Luckily a few months later there is a fine replacement...

Resolved Secure Plesk by subdomain - best practice?

Thanks for your reply @Rasp ! DNS was working correctly. But your answer made me think why you got it to work and I didn't. Then I checked my default host on the server and noticed the authentication token had been written. However, earlier I had added some .htaccess rules to the default host...

Resolved Secure Plesk by subdomain - best practice?

Hello Plesk friends, Recently I started using a 2nd server (VPS) with Plesk. I would like to know what the best practice is (if possible at all) to secure multiple Plesk-servers (the Panel access/login) with Let's Encrypt, while using the same hostname but different subdomains. In short, I...

Question CentOS is shifting focus from CentOS 8 to CentOS Stream

@IgorG What would you suggest in the current situation? AlmaLinux claims "AlmaLinux will be a 1:1 binary compatible fork of RHEL, which means that your applications and services will remain compatible." If (and only if) what they claim seems true and AlmaLinux will be a 1:1 binary compatible...

Question CentOS is shifting focus from CentOS 8 to CentOS Stream

Why? CentOS EOL is end of 2024. Why should we be using old software that long? Why don't we hear anything from Plesk-team? If Plesk-team would say they are unable to get things ready before the end of 2021, THEN CentOS 7 could be a (required) solution, but I'd rather stick to the new CentOS 8...

Question CentOS is shifting focus from CentOS 8 to CentOS Stream

It would be nice if the Pleks-team could inform us about this issue since 2021 is still 11 months to go. When will we hear something from Plesk? I need to install a new server and for now I think I will go for CentOS 8, because I think there will be alternatives at the end of the year which I...

Question CentOS is shifting focus from CentOS 8 to CentOS Stream

    >> And now add to that RHEL 8. Hmmm ... they cut off CentOS 8. Why should we trust them this time? >> Can that actually work or are we looking at a migration ... If I'm not mistaking I read somewhere that CentOS 8 could be changed to Rocky Linux with just 1 line of code. Of AlmaLinux I'm not...

Question CentOS is shifting focus from CentOS 8 to CentOS Stream

Sounds interesting @Peter99 ! So now we have choice between Rocky Linux and AlmaLinux if I understand correctly? And both claim to have their system up and running before CentOS 8 ends their support. This sounds very promising. If this is, I quote "a 1:1 binary compatible fork of RHEL", does...

Question CentOS is shifting focus from CentOS 8 to CentOS Stream

@klowet I am not doing very much with my server. I build websites and I just need a server that is stable and secure. No need for fancy things. I think my choices are: - stick to CentOS 8 and hope Rocky Linux will there before the end of year. If Rocky Linux is not finished in time I will have...

Question CentOS is shifting focus from CentOS 8 to CentOS Stream

@klowet Nince addition Klowet. I understand what you are saying. I recently built a nice menu with functions based on dnf, so I could easily install, update and remove packages. I do have no knowledge about apt and I am not sure if I could easily replace my custom functions. Are dnf and apt...

Question CentOS is shifting focus from CentOS 8 to CentOS Stream

@danami >> install Centos 8 as there will be easy upgrade paths to whatever Plesk decides to support. I am not sure what you mean. What does Plesk have to do with CentOS 8 quitting? @pleskpanel I understand what you are saying. CentOS 7 could be the wiser choice, however I so much hate the...

Question Mail transfer using local email client?

@learning_curve >> Ubuntu uses apt not dnf. Hmmm, that's not really cool :( >> If you dedicate some research time I'll probably have to .. such a bummer. I want to start installing my new server. I use some custom things that use dnf and that ain't going to work on Ubuntu. This is such a...

Question Mail transfer using local email client?

@learning_curve Ah okay. On CentOS 7 I used yum to install packages. On CentOS 8 I use dnf. Does Ubuntu or Debian also work with dnf? Do you perhaps know that? I am mainly a webdesigner/webdeveloper guy and not really a server guy, although I have been learning few things the last couple of...

Question Mail transfer using local email client?

@learning_curve If I don't forget I will let know if the synchronization has worked. But like you said ... IMAP client setup may differ so even if it works for me it is no guarantee for others. >> Finally, off topic but FWIW we'd say Ubuntu 20.04 LTS is a good answer to your other conundrum...

Question Mail transfer using local email client?

@learning_curve Thanks for your concerns. I did a check. I disabled internet connection and was able to open all mail messages in my local email client, so apparently it stores all messages. I also found my mail location :-) Thanks for the help, I think I'm good to go now :)
