• Our team is looking to connect with folks who use email services provided by Plesk, or a premium service. If you'd like to be part of the discovery process and share your experiences, we invite you to complete this short screening survey. If your responses match the persona we are looking for, you'll receive a link to schedule a call at your convenience. We look forward to hearing from you!
  • The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

RBL kills SMTP - and the radio star

I raised it to bl.spamcop.net;sbl-xbl.spamhaus.org;cbl.abuseat.org and the SMTP is dying again. Seems it can only handle one RBL safely? I've added your suggestion so not it's zen.spamhaus.org;bl.spamcop.net;sbl-xbl.spamhaus.org;cbl.abuseat.org. However, are you saying it's best to only...

RBL kills SMTP - and the radio star

Sorry, I'm out of sync here :). Were you replying to the mention of DNS possibly being overloaded or that I'm trying one RBL provider for testing? So far, it held overnight, the SMTP server didn't shut down. The thread that was posted in this thread is correct then. It's an old bug about plesk's...

RBL kills SMTP - and the radio star

I'm trying a test by putting only one RBL in my list. So far, it's been running. I'll keep it going and see how things go. Mike

RBL kills SMTP - and the radio star

You mean for local DNS resolve? I don't use the DNS server on plesk so don't have 127.0.0.1 in my resolv.conf. Mike

Smarthost - Second copy of psa?

I don't use the plesk DNS server, never have. I've always run external DNS servers and they are dedicated, not down or overloaded in any way. I hear what you're saying however and it's partly what I wondered about, not so much the DNS server but perhaps a time frame relationship between RBL...

Smarthost - Second copy of psa?

I'm not controlling anything personally, plesk is doing it all. In other words, I'm simply using the panel like any other admin. When I enable RBL, the SMTP server eventually dies. This has been the case for MANY versions now. I think it's a bug or something when you use more than one, it's the...

Smarthost - Second copy of psa?

What I said was, if I enable RBL, the SMTP server eventually shuts down. Always has, for many many versions. Someone replied to me on another thread and reminded me that I did see something about this a long time ago, something to do with using a specific character between RBL providers in...

RBL kills SMTP - and the radio star

Wow, I do recall that also now that you mention it. Weird thing is, doing a search on RBL gives not even one return in these forums. Mike

Smarthost - Second copy of psa?

Yes, he did suggest I look up the individual components which make up the package. It certainly installed simply enough. I've made notes of these things and will take a look and try it again. Thanks very much. Mike PS: Anyone know why turning on RBL on plesk eventually kills the SMTP...

RBL kills SMTP - and the radio star

This isn't happening to even one other user???

Smarthost - Second copy of psa?

Like I said, even a short doc would help :). Ok, I'll give it another try. What else is there that I should be looking at to make this setup do it's magic? Mike

Smarthost - Second copy of psa?

Not saying it doesn't work, saying it's not as simple as install and forget. I've followed the simple directions, it's up, it's running, it's not stopping spam, not one little bit. So, if it's working for you, what did you have to do because certainly, it wasn't as simple as that :).

Smarthost - Second copy of psa?

I did exactly that. I rebooted the new server, which is dedicated to gamera, making sure that the services are in fact running, they seem to be. I then changed the MX records of two domains and flowed them through both spam servers and only assp started catching spam instantly.

Smarthost - Second copy of psa?

Ok, so I gave Gamera a try, didn't see how it works and had to give it up. You said that it's pretty much ready out of the box and nothing else is required. I installed assp to compare it and assp is actually stopping spam while gamera is not, at all. You might want to consider...

RBL kills SMTP - and the radio star

What gives? For many many many versions now, any time I enable RBL on plesk, SMTP soon stops running. Sometimes it can last days, weeks, other times, enabling RBL instantly kills SMTP server. Anyone know why this is a problem with such a mature app? Mike

    Adding an incoming relay

I thought about that after I posted it. It looks normal, a connection being denied since it can't be authenticated, right? Mike

    Adding an incoming relay

Under Server and Server-wide mail preferences, and WhiteList, I've added a spam server which is pre-processing mail before it gets to plesk. I'm used to adding this in tcp.smtp but I don't see any such file for CentOS so wondered if there is anything else I need to do? The spam server is...

    Joomla/Plesk Integration?

I decided on another, easier method. All I need is some way of reading the users from the joomla user file in the dbase, and generating text output showing new accounts in a certain class and others which have been innactive for x amount of time. I don't need the passwords, just the user names.

Smarthost - Second copy of psa?

Actually, I've installed it and am talking with those guys in their forums. I'm surprised at how it seems to be insanely easy, I've never come across a spam/virus solution that was not going to take some monitoring, some teaching, ongoing maintanance so I'm a bit confused about it right now...
