  • The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

Automated upgrade from 10.4.4 to 11.x.x trustworthy?

I could use some advice with the following.

I am currently on 10.4.4 Update #39 (Linux). I recently (3 weeks ago) had this server installed and all runs fine until yesterday when I discovered my Plesk is hacked. I noticed malicious code in some of the .js files on my server.

My host advices me to reinstall Plesk completely..what are the implications of this advice? Will this mean I have to reinstall all my websites again afterwards?

They also told me (today) to upgrade to 11.x.x...but only two weeks ago they adviced me to stay away from 11.x.x.

What should I do?

Then another question. Plesk has an automated upgrade function. I used the micro-update function a few times, and those worked fine. My host says to stay away from the automated upgrade function (within Plesk admin) to upgrade from 10.4.4 Update #39 to 11.x.x. Why is this available if it doesn't work proper? Is it safe for me to use it? Anyone has any experiences with upgrading online from 10.4.4 to 11.x.x?

Thanks

Ilya

Having just moved from 10.4.4 to 11.0.9 I can tell you due to various problems I'm still not backup fully.

After a fresh install of 11.0.9 on new hardware and migration from 10.x sometimes I would get a Nginx bad gateway error loading a hosted site, but since disabling it (nginx) things have looked pretty solid. I ran component upgrade and saw webpresence could be upgraded. Upgrading it took down psa and after getting psa running, no domain aliases worked and only loaded a default Apache page. All in all, I've not been happy with the migration process.

Nginx - broke domains with static ip
Postfix - Only sending out using shared hosted ip addresses. (probably not related to migration?)
Apache Memory - (haven't looked into this yet, too busy with the other issues)

Also noticed I had to switch on customers DNS for their subdomains. I'm not sure why this would not have migrated activated, but once turning on they resolved correctly. After migration for some reason all users with mailing lists resent their Welcome messages and with the postfix problem it left hundreds of messages stacked in the mail queue. :p

Thanks for sharing your experiences. Greatly appreciated.

You are talking about the automated upgrade function within plesk itself?

Would upgrade plesk from linux command prompt work different (better?). Though I am not experienced with that, I might be persuaded to just hire someone to upgrade without the risks of the automated upgrade function...

Yes I was talking about the automated upgrade function. I didn't run the autoinstaller for the 11.09 webpresence upgrade, however I tried it when the Gui upgrade bombed out on the old 10.4 box trying to get to 11.x. They actually both had the same error of the apr-util or something.. I thought it was nice, usually when the gui bombed in the past, it just froze and I never knew what happened until checking the log.
