• Our team is looking to connect with folks who use email services provided by Plesk, or a premium service. If you'd like to be part of the discovery process and share your experiences, we invite you to complete this short screening survey. If your responses match the persona we are looking for, you'll receive a link to schedule a call at your convenience. We look forward to hearing from you!
  • The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

Question blueyonder.co.uk email rejection 550 / Hostname Generic and needs changing

Hi All

Blueyonder are rejecting emails from our Server and the reason is below

The DNS pointer record for this IP (xxxxxx.vps-10.com.) appears to match a generic or default pattern that is often associated with spam. Cloudmark will not continue to remediate such IP addresses.

Please could you update the rDNS on this IP to be something more specific to the sender and/or your organisation rather than the generic pattern that the provider has assigned by default. You may need to contact your provider in order to accomplish this rDNS change.

For instance mail.example.com would be considered far less generic than 208-83-136-1.sfo.example.com or hosted-by.example.com

is it just a case of changing our Full Hostname in Tools & Settings -> Server Settings ? if yes, what other bits need changing on will the server sort it automatically ?

Yes, you'll need to change the hostname of your sever to something other than xxxxxx.vps-10.com. After doing so you'll also need to change the reverse-DNS record (rDNS) for the IP address of your server. Contact your provider and ask them how change the rDNS record to point to your newly set hostname.
