• Our team is looking to connect with folks who use email services provided by Plesk, or a premium service. • The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

DNS, general understanding

Hi guys,

I'm thinking of purchasing/renting a VPS with PLESK. From the hosting company I understand that there are 2 ways to "connect" a domain to Plesk.

1. Purchase a domain name from within Plesk.

2. Purchase a domain name outside Plesk and configure DNS so it points to my VPS.

The first option seems to have a big problem. Each domain name will be "linked" to my VPS. If I ever have to switch to another hosting company and have to terminate my VPS subscription, then I will loose all of my domain names as well. This is not an option, so I will have to buy the domain names outside Plesk and use DNS to point them to Plesk.

My question is, does this mean I don't have to (or can't) use Plesk at all to configure DNS settings? Do I have to switch off Plesk's DNS service?
