  • The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

Issue FTP access

klockstone

New Pleskian
My VPS provider (123-reg) has updated me to 12.5 - and after some discussion I find I do not have FTP access to my raw web logs.

I have invested a lot of time and money in creating special analysis programs which has been lost - so Plesk is financially culpable.

How does Plesk plan to remedy the situation?

Keith.

Could you please specify, what do you mean:
FTP access to my raw web logs.

On my test Plesk 12.5 server I see domain's web logs after FTP connection:

[root@ppu12-5 ~]# ftp ppu12-5.demo.pp.plesk.ru
Connected to ppu12-5.demo.pp.plesk.ru (127.0.0.1).

Looking at 1 of the sites on my server, bucklandcourt.com:

I have always used FTP to access my log files. The FTP root is:
/var/www/vhosts/bucklandcourt.com/ - so I put the html stuff in:
/var/www/vhosts/bucklandcourt.com/httpdocs/ and see what I thought
to be log activity in:
/var/www/vhosts/bucklandcourt.com/logs/
However this is not the complete set of data I expect to see and other sites on the server have less data still.

However my support at 123-reg now tell me that the logs are at:
/var/www/vhosts/system/bucklandcourt.com/logs/
which I have no FTP access to.

So how do I get FP access to
/var/www/vhosts/system/bucklandcourt.com/logs/ ?

Keith.

Why have you no FTP access? Have you tried to use my sample above?

Hi Igor,

I have very little experience of Linux so I use AceFTP from my Windows laptop. Although I can use Putty to access the root, AceFTP cannot access root with the same password. As I access my web logs several times a day, I don't want to have to type in numerous Linux commands instead of the few mouse clicks I'm used to.

AceFTP tries to access the URL on port 21 with root and password as you would expect but fails.

123-reg support have suggested symlinking the log directories - is this a possibility?

Keith.

Hi,

I eventually got round the problem by running a cron job every 15 minutes that copies the log directories to where I have FTP access - messy but it works.

Now on to the next problem - why one of the log rotate setups is fouled up.

Keith.
