Intelligent management of DNS

Hi, all -

Just wanted to kick around a question that's been bothering me a bit here.

I want to use one single domain, but at the same time, separate "corporate" DNS services from "hosting" DNS services. I guess to elaborate on my problem a bit, I want to make sure our network devices can conform to our domain.tld specification, however, I want to also be able to make ease of just telling a customer to set their domain name nameservers to ns1/ns2.mydomain.com.

But here's the kicker - I don't want Plesk to have full control over the domain's DNS.

I thought of just simply getting a separate domain and using it for "corporate" dns services, and reserving the original domain name for "hosted" DNS services.

It's an awkward question and I think that it may only make sense to the people who have actually dealt with this type of situation before, where they don't want a single Plesk machine managing an entire company's DNS, but still want Plesk to have control over hosted customers' DNS requests.

Thanks!

Hi -

Ok, I think I came up with a solution.

I think I'm going to set up two new servers which will essentially become ns1.domain.tld, and ns2.domain.tld.

I will then have all the Plesk machines notify to these machines, and essentially make those slaves authorative over the domain.

I'll keep you guys posted as things go on.

Thanks
