Situation:
primary domain: domain.com
alias domains: alias.com, alias.net
primary email address:
info@domain.com
email aliases for that email address set in Plesk 12 panel:
mail@domain.com (Plesk automatically adds aliases for mail@alias.com and mail@alias.net)
othermail@domain.com (Plesk automatically adds aliases for mail@alias.com and mail@alias.net)
all email gets delivered to the alias addresses at all three domains.
all email gets delivered to the primary email address at the primary domain.
great so far!
Failure:
email to info@alias.com and info@alias.net (the primary email address at the alias domains)
The error that the other server returned was:
550 5.1.1 <info@alias.com>: Recipient address rejected: User unknown in virtual alias table
I found two workarounds that I want to share, but I also want to understand how to fix it properly and what actually happened, so I can avoid such situations.
Workarounds:
#1) change the name of the account to a less meaningful one and setup the actual primary address as an alias
#2) delete the account and start over adding the alias afterwards
Suspicion:
Perhaps changing a primary account name in Plesk, does not add the proper email aliases for the alias domains, but adding a new account does.
looking forward to your insights!
