Hi. Let's say we have a domain abcsite.com. I have a designer who is going to work on redesigning of that site. I need to create a new account on plesk and new webspace for him to work on until it is ready to take over. Good news is that we have dedicated server. Bad news is that we have some requirements that makes not so simple for noob like me.
1 ) We want to keep admin part of old site accessible somehow (may be via http://ip.add.re.ss/admin) even after new site takes over domain www.abcsite.com. So we just don't want to copy new files over to current site directory. Also we want the option to switch back to old site if something goes wrong with new site after switching.
2) New webspace created has to have same ip as current one so when it takes over, it will be hosted under the same ip as old one. We just have the ip address used by third party software and will be a lot of work to have those switched to new ip.
3) We want to create separate ssh account for designer so he does not have access to current files and database. So creating subdomain under current account is out of question. And I think subdomain don't have same structure as real domain.
From requirement #2 and #3, I believe I have to switch current site ip from dedicated to shared first and then create new subscription in plesk under same ip so he will have webspace under same ip with different ssh login. But new subscription require domain name and I am not sure if I need to register new domain name to have this new account. Currently if I type in http://ip.add.re.ss, it brings up the current site. Can we somehow test the new site using ipaddress even it is shared with current site?
Also I am not sure about the steps I have to take in DNS record so www.abcsite.com will be pointed to this new webspace (which has same ip as old one) when it is ready.
We have plesk 11.0.9 UPdate #62 and running CentOS 6.5
