• Our team is looking to connect with folks who use email services provided by Plesk, or a premium service. If you'd like to be part of the discovery process and share your experiences, we invite you to complete this short screening survey. If your responses match the persona we are looking for, you'll receive a link to schedule a call at your convenience. We look forward to hearing from you!
  • The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

Preferred Domain, why?

New Pleskian
For the life of me I can't understand why a control panel would think it should be the authority for how a website serves itself to the world. The website creators / developers / owners should be the only people making this decision and implementing the functionality. The fact that the Plesk control panel defaults to 'domain.tld' is completely ridiculous, compounded by the fact you can't set this value when creating a subscription via the API, and further compounded by the fact you can't set a default value for that setting panel wide or per service plan. Every single time a new subscription is created you HAVE to 'manage hosting' then 'hosting settings' then change the drop down on that page and save. Who ever thought this was a smart decision?

If you're not on Plesk 11.5 yet then DO NOT UPGRADE.

This setting should be removed completely from Plesk control panel. It should never know or care how the domain is served, it has no business to know that. If the idiots in charge of decisions have too large of egos to remove this horrible setting then at least default it to none so the website owner can decide themselves, AND give a way to set this value via the API AND give a way to set this on the service plan level or panel wide.

Google around for this issue, all you see are tons and tons of posts asking for help with a Parallels team member making a quick stop in to give bogus information then never returning.

I agree this should be configurable in the serviceplan, and it is bad that it isn't configurable as of this moment. However, you can configure this using CLI/commandline tools. So if you are facing issues with this setting, you could write a small script that changes this setting on all your vhosts. You could even run this periodically, or attach it to a Plesk hook (Event Manager) to run when a new subscription is enabled.

Again, I agree this could be configurable server-wide, but you need to be aware that Plesk has plenty of options to alter this setting. Your rant only shows that you lack Plesk knowledge, which is nobody's fault but your own. If you would just read the Administrator Guide you could have learned that you are able to resolve this yourself.

It is okay to ask questions, but you ranting at Parallels here doesn't help. As you can see it also prevented Parallels support people from answering your question.
