  • The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

Question Rebuilding Dedicated Server from cPanel to Plesk - Need some guidance

Mel247

New Pleskian
Hello,

I am looking to rebuild my LINUX dedicated server presently running cPanel and moving to Plesk 17 still running as LINUX

All Domains Databases and Email accounts will be backed up on an individual domain basis rather than a server-wide backup.

Since this is a server rebuild and not a migration, if I am correct then I will not be able to use the plesk migration tool as all data would have
been wiped?

1. Once the rebuild is completed can the individual accounts including databases be imported from their backup zip files?

2. How or more to the point, can emails from the email backup zip files be imported?

If anybody has done this before or can tell me the right way to do all of this it would be appreciated.

Thank you - Mel

No doubt , its going to be a manual migration and you will have to manually create the website accounts , sub domain accounts accordingly through Plesk. The data bases will have to be restored manually too after making sure that you have created them through your plesk control panel.

Thank you for your reply.

I took a look at the link under the importing emails, but it does not mention specifically being able to import mbox or eml files and without having access to Plesk at this present time it is not possible to see what you can and cannot do with the Plesk Migrator.

Setting up the website accounts and databases I am fine with, my big concern is not being able to reinstate all of the emails.

Hello, friend. As far as I am concerned, it is possible to import mbox and eml files by using Plesk Migrator. You should not have any problems with that. However, it's not an easy task, and you will have to spend some time on it. However, I wanted to ask you about why are you moving from cPanel ? It is also pretty good. I have a lot of rental servers, and most of them are working on cPanel, and I am actually pretty satisfied with it. I am really curious about that, so I am waiting for your answer. By the way, I hope that you are going to be able to move your dedicated server to Plesk.

Hello,

I run a dedicated server and have used cPanel on it for years however in the last few months cPanel has changed how they charge for their license.

The result is that the monthly license cost has increased by a large amount the cost of which is being passed on from the hosting supplier to me.

The Plesk license is considerably cheaper, particularly when moving over to a new server using Plesk. I have used Plesk before without any real problems
although that was many years ago.

Getting back to your reply, taking into account that on a rebuild it means a manual migration as there will NOT be 2 servers up and running at the same time, with the migration tool is there a menu selection where you can import just an mbox or eml file.
