• The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

Adding a new database results in error

Hello all,

I recently updated to 8.6.0 and have since been experiencing issues with adding a database.

When I try to add a database to a domain, I get an error: "Error: Plesk Control Panel cannot connect to the database server because valid administrator's login and password have not been specified."

I checked /etc/psa/.psa.shadow and the password matches what I can log in to mysql from the command line. I can add and remove domains. I just can't administer databases.

I am running CentOS 5 and Plesk 8.6.0. My MySQL version is 5.0.45.

So can anyone help me out?

Thanks!

Hi,

I get exact the same error. I run Suse with Plesk 8.6.0 and MySQL 5.0.26.
Everything works fine, only creating databases doesn't work.

Can anyone else verify?

So maybe we can get Parallels to help out? I don't want to have to explain to my customers how to create databases manually :)

Hi,

Are you able to connect to the Mysql service from MySQL administrator or other utilities with the details (root) which you have configured with the Plesk?

If all correct, please try to change MySQL password from Plesk -> server -> database -> MySQL and enter the same details in the MySQL server preference.

Changing Database Password

This is the default database on the system and it doesn't look like I can change the password.

I go to Servers -> Database Servers and click on "Local MySQL Server (default for MySQL)".

I don't see the ability to change that password at all.

I had the same problem, and weirdly enough, solved it by switching to Firefox. I found that the latest WebKit nightlies gave this error, and Firefox 3 doesn't have the problem. So maybe you want to try switching to another browser, and see if that works.

Kind regards,

Frederik

That was it.

frederikdb, that was the problem. I'll have to file a bug with the webkit guys.

Shot in the dark guess that I was on a Macintiosh?

Thanks for your help!

I'm running into the same issue documented in this thread, however, the problem only occurs for Clients and Domain Administrators, the issue does not occur for the 'admin' account. Does anyone know what db to check for this valid administrator's login and password? I'm guessing the server has it stored somewhere other than the psa.shadow file that didn't get populated by the last update to 8.6.
