apache owned files and the file manager

Hello

I use Plesk 7.5.4 on Linux
I have users who use php applications like Joomla and phpged,etc which when files are uploaded have the owner apache.apache.
If they go into Plesk and use the file manager they can't delete these files/directories.
I thought in previous versions they could delete files they didn't own as long as they were within their domains directories(i.e httpdocs).
Surely a user should be able to delete files from within their own hosting space.

Does anyone have ideas?

Still no response from anyone or SWSoft.
Unfortunately we can only hope that it is fixed in 8.0. But we won't know that for sure till we upgrade to it.

HI Bman, i found some kind of howto to set up a tool called suPHP, that would help on this.

Actually investigating on it. But i also think that should be swsoft who is giving a integrated solution for this issue since is so anoying problem.

I also sent an email to plesk support team but still no answer: they're acting as people escaping this issue ... sad but true

I can't believe it, they haven't it solved on 8.1, then... why should i upgrade to 8.1, this is a major issue they should focus in before doing anything else.

I reported the problem to Swsoft and got this reply:

It is absolutely correct because of unix permissions design. System PHP
comes as apache 'mod_php' module, and all PHP scripts operate under
'apache' user and group privileges. Both FTP user and File Manager
operates with 'ftplogin' privileges. The only workaround is to either
delete files not through FTP access but the same way as they were
created: with PHP scripts. Or create files with permissions which allow
to remove files by 'ftplogin'.

I.e. it's not a fault, but anyway we do understand that it is not
comfortable and developers are thinking about what other ways to
implement PHP support, like use it through CGI, however it has not been
done yet.

Yes, sw-softs's answer is totally right.
mod_php has this behavior (running scripts under apache permission).
This is not an "issue" at all.
However, they could have installed mod_suphp, and put it in option.
These sort of things would have been great and would have given sw-soft a significant advantage over loads of competitors (my 2c)

[I'm not sure cpanel servers are really using suphp ?]
I just checked, cpanel has been using phpsuexec for years now. It reached its end of life but maybe more interesting, as it is built into apache (phpsuexec working over other mods ??)

Has anyone installed suPHP on their Pleask 7.5 box?
Does this seem to solve the problem?
Any issues/complications with Plesk?
Even though phpsuexec is outdated, is it suggested that suPHP be used instead?

I just installed suphp with plesk 8.0.1, have no idea if it's working great with 7.5 (it should ...).

phpsuexec, as far as i know can be built into apache whereas suphp is mod-based.

and suphp is new compared to phpsuexec, has more features.

I would suggest using phpsuexec but we would have it built into apache's plesk, it would have been perfect.

Hi, i'm migrating from 7.5 to 8.1 next month, I would apreciate any links to tutorials or step by step guides to set up suPHP on a plesk 8.1 box with redhat...

Did you do anything special? did u use atomik rocket turtle packages? did u have any problems ?
