  • The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

Best way to separate subdomains?

William Kern

New Pleskian
Hello and thank you for your time!

I am looking for a way to separate subdomains within Plesk. Our old server setup (running Plesk 11) used a single subscription per domain. Within these subscriptions, we added different subdomains (including wildcard subdomains).

We were unable to assign different system users to the subdomains. Additionally, we would like to separate the subdomain document roots from the vhost directory of the primary domain. For example, it should be possible to have a vhost directory /var/www/vhost/demo.example.com with a document root inside whilst the primary domain was located at /var/www/vhost/example.com.

Is this separation possible in Plesk 12? We thought about using different subscriptions, but is this possible for subdomains / wildcard subdomains?

We now tried to use one subscription per subdomain on one of our Plesk 12 servers. Everything seems to work as expected, but we are unable to use a wildcard subdomain like this. Any ideas?
