cannot change root password ( Centos)

[Plesk 10.0.1 , Centos 5]
for security reason I've been asked to change the root password,
I logged via ssh as root user, and I used the standard commend :

passwd
Changing password for user root.
passwd: Failed preliminary check by password service

I tried to look into the /etc/pam.d/system-auth :

what should I modify to be able to change the root password being root user ?

We got this fix and we wrote an article (in Spanish) with all the related info in http://www.hackingballz.com/articul...ailed-Unable-to-create-system-user/Page1.html

Basically, you should replace the passwd and the system-auth with the configuration that we publish and it will start working. Tested in 3 different servers with those errors and all are working properly.
