  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.
  • The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.

Hi, all !

Well, basicly...I leased a dedicated server with windows 2003 Std and 100 domains license of Plesk...

My goal is create my own web hosting provider...and I'm totally lost about it...

Some Basic Questions:

1-May I need anything more ?
2-I've 2 IPs assigned....Will Plesk act as DNS Server too ?
3-Should I enable pop3/smtp services of Windows 2003 to Plesk administrate this ?

My need is really something very standard....someone know about any tutorial of "how to set up a server with plesk to be a hosting service provider" ?

ty, all !

I new to the hosting game also.

1) Free time to manage the server/Plesk. I spend about 2-5 hours a wk doing server things. I am very novice though so it takes me longer to get things done.

2) Yes, plesk has a built in DNS service. You will need to create Name Servers for your clients to use. ns1.yourdomain.com, ns2.yourdomain.com.

3) Personally I would let Plesk manage the pop3/smtp. If you don't enable Plesk to manage the mail part then users can not create email accounts via Plesk control panel. For the email application I use hMailServer.

For me just reading through the Plesk manual helped me out. http://www.parallels.com/en/products/plesk/docs/

Ty, Elime :)

BTW...I reralize tha'ts Plesk comes with a smtp/pop service installed...The name is MailEnable...

Did U know ? if yes: Any reason in particular to use the other mail app ?

I switched to hMailServer back in July of 2007 when I first got my VPS.
I believe I switched to hMailServer because I could set spam filter rules, it's free, and easier to use. To upgrade to the Mailenable version that had spam filter was pretty costly. hMailServer also has built in IMAP and the free version of MailEnable didn't unless you upgrade.

hMailServer works in Plesk 8.3 so users can create their mailboxes via Plesk Control Panel. So yes, Plesk does control the smtp/pop3. You will want to enable smtp port 587 most likely for outgoing mail.
