• Our team is looking to connect with folks who use email services provided by Plesk, or a premium service. If you'd like to be part of the discovery process and share your experiences, we invite you to complete this short screening survey. If your responses match the persona we are looking for, you'll receive a link to schedule a call at your convenience. We look forward to hearing from you!
  • The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

Question Domain Migration from CPanel

Marcelo Mella

New Pleskian
Im trying to migrate a domain from a CPanel shared Hosting
Transfering files and databases is not a problem
Copy and configure DNS is simple
But i'm not sure how to handle emails. What are the best practices?
How can i migrate emails having final user to just change their password ?

Hi, If you have root access to cPanel sever then you can use Plesk Migrator for migration of the domains with databases and mail accounts with their content. All user passwords will be saved as is.
Else you can use Website importing feature for import web content and databases. Mail messages could be transferred using thirdrdparty tools like IMAPCopy or IMAPSync. In this case passwords should be changed to temporary that tools can access to mail boxes.
More one but more difficult way to use custom migration feature of Plesk Migrator. There is needed to describe client, domain and mail boxes in hosting description file and Plesk Migrator will create mailboxes in Plesk automatically and transfer their content using IMAP. Mail passwords should be changed to temporary in this case too.
Migrating from Custom Hosting

I guess i should go with ImapSync.

The procedure im thinking of is:
  1. Make new mails to arrive to the new server
  2. Copy mailboxes from old server to new server
  3. Delete unused DNS records
But i'm not sure how to handle DNS configuration on each step
