  • The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

Help needed for Google Map API... Please...

NeuroPsyche

Regular Pleskian
I need help getting the Google Map API to work.

I really don't think this works with alias domains since there is no setup in the primary domain setup to configure
the Google Map API key.

If anyone knows of a work around to this can you please post it? I'm sure that others have alias domains and are running into the same problem.

Also, PLEASE PLEASE RELEASE SITEBUILDER 5!!!!! I can't stand waiting any longer! I was told that it would be released
sometime early '09, and its getting a bit late in the year, don't you think :)

Thanks,

Dave.

As I understand Google Map API service will not work for domain alias as the key was generated for particular domain URL, so I guess there is no way to use it on another site.
Do you have any site examples where it is possible to check it? Is this simple alias of some kind of forwarding?
As for version 5, unfortunately, no news. There is no exact date for release.

Dmitry, thank you for writing back once again.
I do truely understand that the Google MAP API is generated for a particular domain. But... in Plesk the alias setup is based upon a primary domain. The alias domain's data is pulled from the primary domain. All the aliases of the domain are basically mirror images of the primary domain. One would that thought that in the coding of Plesk, since it knows that the alias is retrieving the site data from another domain, that it would also send the site data of the primary domain when retrieving the Google Map.
I'm sure your right that it can't be done using another domain other than what was registered for that particular Google MAP API, but... it could be if the Google MAP API was generated from the primary domain, not the alias domains, and the server would 'think and function' as if the user was using the primary domain.

I'd like to mention one of my sites, http://www.schnauzersofpa.com < Primary domain
there are over 30 alias domains for this site, a few being: http://www.ischnauzer.com, www.paschnauzers.com, www.justschnauzers.com, www.justschnauzers.net.

Since all the alias domains retrieve their site data from the same vnet physical dir in IIS, the data in that primary domain could be used to 'trick' the retrieval of the Google Map data.

I know it can be done, but not as Plesk / Sitebuilder operates right now. The new IIS7 services may make it even easier for the Plesk engineers to recode this part of Plesk / Sitebuilder and put in a domain variable to shell out the primary domain when an alias is used.

Please get on those engineers to release Sitebuilder 5. I've been holding off redoing our servers with Plesk 9 until Sitebuilder 5 is released. I want fresh clean installs of everthing on the servers.

Thanks again for writing!

Dave.

I understand what you are talking about but in this case it will make sense only in Paralllels Plesk + Parallels Plesk Sitebuilder installation on one server. Some customer's use Sitebuilder in standalone installation.
Anyway, I am going to pass your comments to developers so they could probably do something with it in future Sitebuilder versions. Thank you for your informative messages.
