• Our team is looking to connect with folks who use email services provided by Plesk, or a premium service. If you'd like to be part of the discovery process and share your experiences, we invite you to complete this short screening survey. If your responses match the persona we are looking for, you'll receive a link to schedule a call at your convenience. We look forward to hearing from you!
  • The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

How to change the Hostname URL

Jay Versluis

Regular Pleskian
My servers have an "ugly" URL out of the box courtesy of my providers (both Strato and 1&1). It's something like h123456.stratoserver.net or s123456.online-homeserver.info.

I've changed my host name to my own domain (let's say mydomain.com) and the IP resolves correctly. I can access the login screen via mydomain.com:8443 but the URL still changes to the "ugly" one I don't like.

How can I change this permanently?

Hi Jay,
Did you follow the instructions in http://kb.parallels.com/en/1793 and which Plesk version do you use?
The own hostname works fine for me on a Strato server from previous versions < 9 until my current 10.3.1.
Also remember to use https://hostname.com:8443

Hi Knarf,

works like a charme - I had to restart psa to make it stick, which is why I was confused when the change didn't take. Thanks!
