  • The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

how to upgrade host software

Hello, I DO APOLOGIZE for this question - but I am new to Plesk and need fast answer.

So I have ordered LINUX virtual private server from my webhosting company - with PLESK installed. Now the question is - if I want to update servers (like apache, .... ) and software - is it safe to use RPM/YUM commands? I mean - if I download and install update to let's say apache server - will it still be manageable by PLESK?

Thank you.

If it is Virtuozzo VPS it can be easily and safely updated with Virtuozzo method like 'vzpkg update VPS_ID'

Hm, well - no such command/program "vzpkg" (I tried "find"). Please advise. So should I avoid using RPM/YUM?

Thank you.

This command is available from Virtuozzo hardware node but not inside VPS if it is really Virtuozzo. Upgrade VPS with yum is not good idea because VPS filesystem structure will be broken (symbolic links will be replaced with real files - more details in Virtuozzo docs about EZ templates), but it is possible.

thank you for the answer. I do not think I have an access to "Virtuozzo hardware node" to perform such command. I can only connect to "Virtuozzo Power Panel" and "Plesk" via WEB interface.

So what you're saying there is no "PLESK safe" method of updating software of our VPS on our own and we have to contact virtuozzo admin?

Thank you.

What do you mean "updating software"? Do you mean update host OS or update something like PHP, MySQL or something else? How you can update VPS OS I have described above. The best way for this purpose is contacting Virtuozzo administrator with request about 'vzpkg update' command for your VPS. If you want to update PHP or MySQL - you can find a lot of mentions about atomicturtle solution on this Plesk forum's section.

I am confused with your reply because you state that updating software from within the VE breaks it. Yes, it does :) But AtomicTurtle is intended to run from inside the VE. How can PHP and MYSQL be updated without crashing the VE?
