• Our team is looking to connect with folks who use email services provided by Plesk, or a premium service. If you'd like to be part of the discovery process and share your experiences, we invite you to complete this short screening survey. If your responses match the persona we are looking for, you'll receive a link to schedule a call at your convenience. We look forward to hearing from you!
  • The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

I am having problems with email. I can now login and send mail using either Horde webmail or POP but cannot receive email. I also donot receive any errors from the accounts sending the emails.

Need help. Any ideas.

Thank you,
David

You've probably already thought of this, but just in case, I thought I would post it. About the only thing I can think of is maybe your domain does not have an MX record listed in DNS that points to your plesk server. Other than that, I can't think of any reason this would be happening off the top of my head.

try doing a telnet to the smtp port on the domain

telnet domain.com 25

If you cant connect from an external network try doing it on the affected machine;

telnet 127.0.0.1 25

let us know the output after running those command

I can telnet and get 220 mydomain.com ESMTP. I am also starting to receive the Delivery Status Notification (Failure) errors for failed delivery. I believe the issue is with the MX records.

My host provider provides email through their mail.mydomain.com and the VPS Plesk server provides webmail.mydomain.com. I need both to work where if I create an account on mail.mydomain.com the user can use my host providers mail service and then I will also use the Plesk server webmail.mydomain.com mail for scripts and forms.

I am confused as what the correct MX records should be.

Thank you,
David

If your host provider has a different mail server than the one running on plesk, you probably can not set it up so mail is delivered to both locations. Assuming you only want mail to be delivered to your plesk server, that should not be too difficult. Lets say your plesk server is mail.mydomain.com, and when you ping that hostname, it resolves to your plesk servers IP address. You would want to set up a MX record in DNS that would be something like 'MX 10 mail.mydomain.com'. Different DNS providers may have different ways of configuring MX records, but there are really only two things you need - the priority, and the mail server. In the example, 10 is the priority, and mail.mydomain.com would be the server. If you want more information on MX Records, there is some good information here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MX_record

Hope this helps!

Not sure what has changed but I can now send and receive from my host providers mail at mail.mydomain.com. The problem now is that I can not receive mail from the Plesk Horde webmail and I am not receiving the failure messages.
