Install and Configure MS SQL

Hi all,

I found some threads about how to install and configure a ms sql Server. But the results were not so satifying. So I have a few questions, which you probably can answer.

- I read about "Ability to use Microsoft SQL Server" is optional. How could I find out if my License supports MS SQL Server.

- I read a lot about wrong configured (wrong installed) MS SQL Servers does anybody have a step by step guide (tutorial)

- I think Plesk itself uses MS SQL is there any risk to damage the running Plesk System while installing another MS SQL Instance?

1 Login to your plesk as admin and click on the "Manage Licenses" (license manager) icon and scroll down and see if the capability to use MSSQL says "Yes" or "No"

2 Which version of MSSQL are you planning to install?

3 Please runns under MSSQL or MySQL depends how you choose to install plesk.

Hey Henry,

thanks a lot for your answers. In fact the possibility to use a MS SQL Database is switched off. And I searched for a license to extend my Plesk. But there is no license to just extend plesk it is always in combination with a SQL Server lease. But there are free versions like 2005 express. Furthermore I have the SQL Server 05 licensed. Why ought I by such a server lease?

To descend to further questions:

- is it possible to buy just the support for MS SQL Server (if yes where and how)
- I installed my Plesk with MS SQL (if I remeber rightly) would it have impacts to my Plesk if I install another instance? Or can I use Plesk's instance?

To the mssql licensing issue, the MS license for your MSSQL instance is separate from any Plesk licenses. Yes you should be able to purchase just MSSQL plesk license on the parallels site. Is your hosting provider not offering any plesk licenses? I can get you plesk license with the power pack for less if you want, my data center offers it for less.

Plesk installs the mssql express edition if you choose so when installing plesk.
