• Our team is looking to connect with folks who use email services provided by Plesk, or a premium service. If you'd like to be part of the discovery process and share your experiences, we invite you to complete this short screening survey. If your responses match the persona we are looking for, you'll receive a link to schedule a call at your convenience. We look forward to hearing from you!
  • The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

Parallels Premium Antivirus Memory Hogg

Liam_Carey

New Pleskian
So I set up a Cloud VM to host a number of websites and as a precaution I enabled the Parallels Antivirus.... wow. The server memory usage has shot up from 55% to 108% when it is turned on.

This is bonkers - how can I reduce the memory back to a safer % while keeping the AV turned on? Are there other services that are non essential that I can turn off without effecting performance?

To optimize Parallels Premium Antivirus resource consumption, open for editing file /etc/drweb/drweb32.ini, set PreFork = No, and restart the service.

You can find this file with mentioned path and edit it with vi editor, for example, in Linux command line interface. Ask help of experienced Linux administrator if you are not familiar with it.

It's just me on my own here working with Plesk and the VM.

I have access to ssh via Terminal OS X if that's what you're suggesting?

Can you login to Plesk server with ssh as root and edit mentioned file with some of unix text editor (vi, for example)? If not - learn unix administration. Not sure that anyone here wants to teach you the basics of Unix administration.

No, I'm sure they don't - I am a web developer on a steep learning curve learning Plesk and Cent OS and now Linux Administration..... aaaaggghhh!!

A simple 'how to' for solving this memory issue would go a long way this Christmas season :)

Okay have just read up on Linux Admin and know how to edit the files and connect via SSH - thanks for the solution.

If I edit the file to this - how does it reduce the memory usage (just so I understand..)?

/etc/drweb/drweb32.ini, set PreFork = No,

Parameter PreFork = Yes/No allows to create the required number of child processes to reduce the response time and memory consumption of the drweb daemon under heavy loads.
