Plesk 8.1.1 => Plesk 8.2.0 => no go

Hello,

I try to update Plesk 8.1.1 to 8.2.0, but I get every time an error, if I do it with Control Panel-Version also when I use /usr/local/psa/admin/bin/autoinstaller , I got Suse 10.1 x64 . From the first day I get Emails form cron:

If I try psa_installer_v3.2.0_build070705.20_os_SuSE_10.1_x86_64
to update to 8.2.0 , I get this message:

resolution

as i was confronted with the same problem, i tried a lot...

a simple solution exists: just run the command line (ssh terminal)

/...plesk-directory../bin/autoinstaller

(replace ...plesk-directory.... with the path where it is residing) and just opt for a normal plesk update to 8.2.0

Do not select the sitebuilder option!

This will work around the problem that the updater from the control panel hangs up after coming to the update of sitebuilder items.

Problem is that, if you have sitebuilder installed, you have to install that also manually.

REMARK!!!!!: if sitebuilder is present on the server where the plesk server is going to be updated, it is very likely that your sitebuilder program does not work properly anymore.
(Hope to have a solution for that too)

additional remark

since my last post, i considered looking at the sitebuilder problem i mentioned in my last post.

It seems simple:
if you have a license for sitebuilder (even though errors are encountered when updating with the control panel updater), manual updates are not giving problems with sitebuilder, except for one....

the new installation is changing your url

this can be resolved with the command line:
sb_config --sb_hostname=yourdomain.com --force_update_wscfg

this has been pointed out in other threads, solution given in thread 45731

NOTE: yourdomain.com can be replaced with what you desire (subdomain.domain.com , http://yourdomain.com etc. etc.)
Make sure that the DNS records are also properly set.....

ok I removed everything what looks like sitebuilder, now I was able to update, but now is plesk not starting.

it was not the idea to remove the sitebuilder elements. You can leave them without any problem.

Just a manual installation would be sufficient.

can you given me some information regarding the process and steps you did take?

PS as i am not mistaken...you still have a n old incorrect update on the machine...since you get cronmessages everyday...is that correct?

I don't need the sitebuilder ...
after I deinstalled this, I started the autoinstaller , I didn't see a big error, but now psa will not start.

Some questions:
-is the license on your name? or on the service providers name (if on your own name, no problems should be arising with 3.1.2 version of installer, to my knowledge)
-did try to STOP the psa and restart gracefully? (helps sometimes)
- can it be the case that you did not undo the previous erronic installation (since you still get the cronmessages, if i am not mistaken...)

Try to use the installer again and install the whole bunch of items (except the language packs)......as if you are installing a new version of plesk.

BY THE WAY: use the autoinstaller command line, like:

/usr/local/psa/admin/bin/autoinstaller

(no options did work fine for me)

ok is running now, I had a problem with /dev/null/ , I fixed this and now is "/usr/local/psa/admin/bin/httpsdctl start" working for me.

I deleted sitebuilder, cause with the sitebuilder installed, I was not able to update, I was not able to deselect one sitebuilder option.

Piece of advice: check the remainder.

Seems that you have solved one problem due to erronic installation, but did not solve the issue that made the installation erronic: as a result more problems can be expected to be arising.

Filter out and rule out other potential problems by finding out what the exact reason is for httpsd not starting after installation and what the effects are upon other program items.

Also send the findings to swsoft, since it is kind of bad that we have to install updates manually. They can do something about it, with the information of users.

Yeap I was already looking why the /dev/null will be changed, I guess it happend after an update of plesk, I don't know who change every day the /dev/null . The httpsdctl didn't start, cause the /dev/null was not ok, that was the error message.

So, I installed Sitebuilder 4 only for testing, every thing is running fine, funny plesk.
