  • The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
    If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

Port 587 (message submission) does not work

Hi all,

we're trying to activate the SMTP message submission port 587. We enabled it in Plesk 8.4 and the port is not blocked by our firewall but still we can't connect to that port (yes, we're using SMTP auth). The SMTP daemon doesn't seem to be listening on port 587. We ran a port scan with nmap and the port wasn't listed. Has someone experienced the same problem and/or has a solution to this? Thanks in advance!

Hi,

i also have the same problem (after upgrading to 8.4).

there's too much infos in this thread : http://forum.swsoft.com/showthread.php?t=52609
and i don't know if it's related.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem ?

Thank you for your help.

edit: telnet smtp.myserver.com 587 doesn't work

Check to ensure your smtp_psa and smtps_psa are the same. I had a similar problem because my smtps_psa was set to disabled even after I enabled it.

I have read some problems in another thread about these files.

But as several others users, I tried to list and grep but I can't find these files.

Thank you for your help.

I use Centos5.1 however it should be the same for any RH derivative.

/etc/xinetd.d/
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 538 Jul 8 14:50 smtp_psa
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 539 Jul 8 14:50 smtps_psa

The contents of my smtps_psa looks like,

service smtps
{
socket_type = stream
protocol = tcp
wait = no
disable = no
user = root
instances = UNLIMITED
env = SMTPAUTH=1 POPAUTH=1 POPLOCK_TIME=20
server = /var/qmail/bin/tcp-env
server_args = -Rt0 /usr/sbin/rblsmtpd -r zen.spamhaus.org -r bl.spamcop.net -r dnsbl.ahbl.org -r dnsbl.njabl.org -r dnsbl.sorbs.net /var/qmail/bin/relaylock /var/qmail/bin/qmail-smtpd /var/qmail/bin/smtp_auth /var/qmail/bin/true /var/qmail/bin/cmd5checkpw /var/qmail/bin/true
}

I just had to change disable to no it was set to yes, even after I enabled the submission port from the control panel.

ok i am under Debian, and xinetd.d is not included.

It is "replaced" by inetd.conf but the content of the file is not the same as the one you show.

I'm going to google. (or maybe anyone knows how to solve it on Debian :) ?)

thank you for your help.

inetd.conf

Hi. I also running Debian. In my system I do not use xinetd. I use inetd.conf. I wrote an e-mail about the same problem to the support team of plesk but they send me back what is in the user manual. After two letters I realized that we just walking around so I started to investigate in my system.

Here is what I found:

When you change any settings on the Plesk control panel under Mail menupoint the inetd.conf is written. I start to play with it and I found a strange file next to inetd.conf. The name of the file inetd.confe.

The content of my inetd.conf was totally the same as inetd.confe except the red line:

smtp stream tcp nowait.1000 root /var/qmail/bin/tcp-env tcp-env /usr/bin/env END=1 /usr/sbin/rblsmtpd -r zen.spamhaus.org /var/qmail/bin/relaylock /var/qmail/bin/qmail-smtpd /var/qmail/bin/smtp_auth /var/qmail/bin/true /var/
qmail/bin/cmd5checkpw /var/qmail/bin/true
smtps stream tcp nowait.1000 root /var/qmail/bin/tcp-env tcp-env /usr/bin/env END=1 /usr/sbin/rblsmtpd -r zen.spamhaus.org /var/qmail/bin/relaylock /var/qmail/bin/qmail-smtpd /var/qmail/bin/smtp_auth /var/qmail/bin/true /var
/qmail/bin/cmd5checkpw /var/qmail/bin/true
submission stream tcp nowait.1000 qmaild /var/qmail/bin/tcp-env tcp-env /usr/bin/env SUBMISSION=1 SMTPAUTH=1 /var/qmail/bin/qmail-smtpd /var/qmail/bin/smtp_auth /var/qmail/bin/true /var/qmail/bin/cmd5checkpw /var/qmail/bin/true

I copy the red line into my inetd.conf and checked what is happening now if I change the submission setting under Mail menupoint. I saw that if I disable it than the red line is commented out. If I enable it is uncommented. So plesk always try to find this line in the config file. If it is there then it is commented or uncommented.

I hope it will help.... :)

It now works, thanks for your help.

Sum up : Plesk 8.4 + Debian 4.0
Error : 553 sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts (#5.7.1)
