Qmail service down after sending lot of e-mails

Hi Folks,

We're using a server to send our mailing to our mailinglist.
Very very often qmail goed down when it tries to send these e-mails (over 40.000 e-mail adresses).
After restarting the q-mail service againg, there is no problem because it just goes on with sending e-mails.

Does anyone know how to resolve this problem ?

Further more: It takes a long time for q-mail to send out let say 12.000 e-mails. Can I do something to speed things up ?

(server sends out 5 messages per second. But sometimes waits a very long time to start with the next 1000.)
