TwitterIf you are using Plesk 10.4 backup & restore as a disaster recovery strategy or to migrate to a new server, you could have problems if you try to restore on another Plesk 10.4 server. File system permissions are not restored even though they were set via the Plesk file manager or via the HostingSecurity command-line program (See http://forum.parallels.com/showthread.php?298421-Command-line-for-file-manager).
So web applications may not work if they rely on write permissions granted to IUSR_ via file manager or HostingSecurity e.g auto image re-size/thumbnails, cache folders, log files, temporary files, asset uploads etc
The permissions are correctly stored in the .security file in the root of each domain, and this file is correctly backed up. However, the Plesk restore program doesn't restore them.
Plesk 11.5 can restore a 10.4 backup, including permissions.
I am posting this here because this behaviour is not explained in the backup & restore documentation and there does not appear to be a knowledgebase article about it.
By the way, if you have set file system permissions via Windows Explorer, cacls or anything other than Plesk, be aware these are not backed up by Plesk, let alone restored.
