• The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

Store Access databases outside root

I access my account with my host via Plesk 6.5.2 for Windows. I have several MS Access databases that I would like to store OUTSIDE the web root directory (httpdocs).

I know that some people successfully secure their databases by putting them in the cgi-bin directory, which appears to be at the same level, and therefore outside, the httpdocs directory. However, I have tried this with my host and discovered that there is a symbolic link between these 2 directories. Storing the database in the cgi-bin directory allows it to be accessed via a browser and downloaded just as easily as if it were in httpdocs.

I also know that one can password databases, but that is not acceptable in this case. I want the database completely outside the web root.

My host does not seem to know how to achieve what I need. I am otherwise very happy with this host and would like to continue to use them. Can someone tell me how to communicate to them what they need to set up or change? Maybe we can all learn something from this. Thanks in advance,

Sarah

Have you tried using one of the other directories or creating a new one?
