  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.
  • The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.

Upgrading Plesk 8.0.0 to Plesk 8.6 questions

Hello,

I am planning on updating my Plesk from version 8.0.0 to 8.6, as stated in the title. I am wondering what I should be aware of before attempting such an upgrade. I remember a while back, Plesk added a forced banner ad so we rolled back to avoid being forced to use that. Is there such a thing in the current release? Will anything break by me updating? And also, should I be upgrading in incremental patches (8.2, 8.4, 8.6), or just a straight shot to 8.6? I am hoping for this to be a nice, simple update, and if it is, I will purchase my upgrades.

Thanks in advance,

Ryan

Hi,

Generally Plesk upgrade from 8.0 to 8.6 should run smoothly and there is no need to upgrade to 8.2 or 8.4 first - direct upgrade to 8.6 should work fine. You can make full backup of your hard drive with a third party software to be able to rollback in case of any issues.

Another possible way to do a 'safe upgrade' is to install Plesk 8.6.0 to another server, migrate your domains from 8.0 server to 8.6 server using Plesk Migration Manager (http://download1.swsoft.com/Plesk/Plesk8.6/Doc/en-US/plesk-win-pmm-guide/index.htm), make sure that all domains were migrates successfully and then switch dns records to point to 8.6 server.

You can also purchase proffessional service for Parallels to perform upgrade instead of you:
