• Our team is looking to connect with folks who use email services provided by Plesk, or a premium service. If your responses match the persona we are looking for, you'll receive a link to schedule a call at your convenience. We look forward to hearing from you!
  • The BIND DNS server has already been deprecated and removed from Plesk for Windows.
If a Plesk for Windows server is still using BIND, the upgrade to Plesk Obsidian 18.0.70 will be unavailable until the administrator switches the DNS server to Microsoft DNS. We strongly recommend transitioning to Microsoft DNS within the next 6 weeks, before the Plesk 18.0.70 release.
  • The Horde component is removed from Plesk Installer. We recommend switching to another webmail software supported in Plesk.

User Issues (Maybe trivial?)

Hi folks!

I hope this question isn't to trivial for this forum.

I am new to Parallels, but have used a different Plesk control panel for a VPS hosting account for years. I recently switched over to a GoDaddy VPS account, and to say I am disappointed would be an understatement at this point.

I am sure it is just that I am used to the old Plesk panel I was using, but I must say, Parallels just doesn't seem as intuitive to me as the older version. Maybe it is just the way GoDaddy has it set-up, I don't know yet. I do know that GoDaddy's help on issues regarding Parallels is non-existent.

At this point, I seem to have my sites up and running but I keep running into issues I find very frustrating especially under the pressure of staying up most of the night getting the sites migrated to a new server as well as trying to get several clients sites up and 100% functioning as they were before.

The current issue I am trying to tackle should be very simple. After getting a clients site loaded I can't seem to create a username/pass that they can use to log-in to Parallels and create their own e-mail accounts. I thought I had it correct, but when I logged in as them, I could see users from other domains.

Thanks in Advance....

A quick follow up....

Here is what I am doing and what is wrong

To setup Plesk users, I am signing in to the Plesk dashboard at my IP xx.xxx.xx.xxx:8443. From the Plesk Dashboard > Domains > Control Panel link (of the domain you wish) > Users > Create User Account.

This creates a user fine, the big problem is that when I log in as that new user todd@123.com, not only can I see the user todd@123.com, I see the users from every domain subscription I have. Plus, I can see all the domains listed in the subscription in the upper right hand corner.

Granted it doesn’t appear as though I can make changes to those users or domains, I still don’t want my clients seeing who my other customers are, or aren’t. And I can’t imagine anyone else would either

To provide some additional info, I realize this is a function of User Roles.

I created a user role where the ONLY function "granted" is for mail accounts. When I log-in as that user I can still see the other users as well all the domains in the upper right drop down box.

Hi Eugene, yes, they are experiencing the same problems I have. It's a little scary that this has been a known issue since at least May, and hasn't been addressed.

The good news is I have come a step closer to resolving the issue and understanding the cause. Not with the help of GoDaddy, or the tech support at Parallels Plesk, but thanks to a very helpful sales employee "Ben" at Parallels.

According to Parallels, it seems this issue stems from the fact that Parallels made some fundamental process changes for users, roles, and subscriptions when upgrading from Plesk 9 to Plesk 10.

The bad news is that in order to get Plesk 10 working properly it appears as though I am going to have to delete all the domain names I have created and start over following the new subscriptions guidelines. This is going to cost me 5 or so hours of work creating a new subscription for each domain, a new DNS for each domain, going back and changing the DNS at the domain level for each domain and waiting for them to propagate through the system. Once that happens, I will then have to upload all the sites again, and then myself and my customers will have to go back in and recreate all of our e-mails again.

In short, this is going to cost me hundreds if not thousands of dollars to correct. And even worse, mine and my customers sites will be down for up to 48 hours during the process.

I just can't believe this is happening

So others have a better idea of what is going on, I will include an image below. The image shows the view of a user who is ONLY granted permission to create e-mails for ONE domain. While functionality seems to be limited to the proper domain, unfortunately they can hover over the drop down box in the upper right hand corner and see ALL the domain names on the VPS account. In addition, should that very limited user click the "User" tab, he can see and e-mail ALL the users from ALL the domains on the VPS account.

Hi, TnTodd

Could you please describe clearer how was your transition to Panel 10.x made and what are your needs in terms of functionality available for customers - for each type of customer you have.
Parallels has a guide http://download1.parallels.com/Ples...or-guide/plesk-switching-administrator-guide/ to help finishing transition from legacy model of Plesk 8.x and 9.x to Panel 10.x business model.

As I understand for now:
1. You had a number of domains and now they are converted into subscriptions? Am I correct that now each domain is presented with its own subscription belonging to you as Panel administrator? The best variant is that each domain is a separate subscription.
2. You had a users who could create mailboxes inside particular domain - probably domain administrator. The best choice for you is to create a customer account for each subscription and change subscription ownership so that this created customer will start to own his subscription (customer must be an owner, not you as Panel administrator). This customer will be completely locked inside his subscription(s) and you will be able to grant him permissions to create and manage mailboxes there.
3. I suppose you had a customers who were only mailbox users - they should be converted into users inside particular subscription and you shouldn't grant them a permission to create and manage mail accounts - in this case they will be ably only to send and receive e-mail. KB http://kb.odin.com/en/111131 should help you to set right permissions in this case.
