VPN connection in Windows XP

Hello,

can I use the VPN module in Plesk to stablish a secure connectio on an open wireless network?

I installed the module, configure it, download the openvpn package and run it getting this message.

Initialization sequence completed

What do I need to do then to connect in Win XP with that VPN network?

Normally, when it's "completed", you should have a new virtual network interface which is provided with a particular IP...

You can check this with the command "ipconfig /all", it's the TAP32 Win32-Adapter.

Then, you're able to access your server and all services with a particular IP (set in the configuration of the VPN module) that has the same subnet as yours.
For example, if you've an IP like 192.168.1.x set under the TAP32 device, the plesk server should be 192.168.1.x...

So, if you access it using this IP, you should be able to access it securely.

All is how you comment, the problem is that I don´t know how to use that connection/ip to navigate.

I tried to disable the other one, but obviously, I lost too the VPN connection.

So... how can I tell Windows to use that new connection?

Make sure your VPN IP is on another subnet than any other IP you might have on your Windows System... When the VPN IP is different, Windows will automatically forward your packet trough the VPN for the concerned subnet.

Mmm, please check this because to view if I´m doing all ok.

My wireless ip and subnet mask is:

192.168.1.100
255.255.255.0

My new connection after stablish it is:

192.168.1.106
255.255.255.252

How can I check if I´m navigating through the vpn?

Change your VPN connection to something like 192.168.2.x. It should work this way.
In order to change this, you have to use the Plesk Admin for the VPN module.

Done.

I changed it, download the vpn package again. Installed the tap, and connectedwith success. The new connection appears.

Nothing changed respect the last time. How can I check if I´m using the vpn? I´ve tried with whatismyip.com to check if I was using the server ip, but I get my home ip.

To check if you're using the VPN, try to open (for example) an SSH connection to the server using the "VPN" IP (192.168.2.x). If this works, you're using the VPN.

If you try with your domain name, this won't use the VPN, as the name will resolve to the public IP of your dedicated host.
